Can You Eat and Drink Normally with Invisible Braces? FAQs On Invisible Braces Dubai
Invisible braces in Dubai are getting hugely popular among orthodontic treatments in Dubai, mainly because they are invisible, meaning they don’t project in front of the teeth like metal braces. They’re comfortable, discreet, and easy to manage. But then comes this obvious question –
“Can I eat and drink normally with invisible braces”?
It is alright to eat your foods and drink milk and juices, but the orthodontists advise you to remove your aligners first. In this content piece, the orthodontists at Magnify Dental Clinic explain what’s allowed, what to avoid, and how to take proper care of your aligners after your orthodontic treatment in Dubai.
What You Need To Do To Maintain Your Invisible Braces In Dubai
1. Remove the braces before you chew
One of the rules of living with invisible braces is simple – You must remove your aligners before eating anything, however simple or small it may be. This is because the aligners are not designed to withstand the crushing force of human jaws. They are made of medical-grade thermoplastic, and they do only what they are meant to do – move teeth. If you chew food with it, however soft the food may seem, the aligners are likely to crack, puncture, or warp.
And that’s not the only thing – when you eat food with the aligners on, they could turn into a trap for food particles and sugar. This will stay there brushing directly against your tooth enamel, and accelerating decay.
But the upside? Once you remove the aligners, you don’t have the restrictions like with traditional metal braces. You can eat all your favorite popcorn, nuts, chewy foods, and crunchy snacks as you will. And without the dietary restrictions, you can enjoy toffee and other sticky foods without worrying about pulling a bracket off. All you need to do it clean your teeth well before placing the aligners back on, because of course, you cannot afford to have any traces of those sticky foods on your teeth.
- Be wise about the liquids consumed
It is also wise to remove the aligners when you drink coffee, tea, cola, juices and the like. However, you don’t have to remove the aligners if it is just water. Drinking cool or room temperature water is perfect to keep yourself hydrated, but never hot water. Because thermoplastic is heat-sensitive. Consuming hot liquids will cause the plastic to warp, and this in turn changes the shape of the aligner. And when the aligner is warped, it will not move your teeth correctly and will have to be replaced.
3. Follow The Post-Meal Routine: Rinse, Brush, Floss
Wearing dirty aligners is a major hygiene risk. So here’s what you have to do
- After Eating: Brush and floss before reinserting your aligners. Make sure there are no trapped food particles.
- What To Do If You Can’t Brush: You cannot carry your toothbrush with you wherever you go. So rinse your mouth vigorously with water to remove debris, remove the aligners, and rinse them under cool water.
- Cleaning the Aligners: Never brush your aligners with toothpaste on your aligners. Use a soft toothbrush and cool water, or specialized cleaning crystals to clean them.
